The story about Will

2006 we started discussing the possibility to buy a grown up male from UK. We wanted a male with clear hips and elbows, with a nice pedigree and strong working capacity. Where should we look?

We searched, we talked to friends, we wrote some e-mails but it seemed like searching for a needle in a haystack. We wanted something extra. A friend of ours gave us a tip, that Mr. Roger Phillips might have a Novice trial winner for sale.

She even went to Wales to look at the dog for us, and called back; if you can buy this dog – do it!

Mr. Phillips had stated he would not sell the dog over the telephone, and insisted that we came to see the dog and meet with him in person. He also made clear that the dog would only be up for sale if his bitch was not made up as a champion during the season, since he only have the possibility to keep one dog in open per season. Mr. Phillips is not a professional handler and work a full time job. If Ruby was made up, he would not sell Will but instead compete with him in open trials the upcoming season. We went to Wales to meet with Mr. Phillips, and to see Will for the first time.

We liked the dog immediately, and got along very well with Mr. Phillips. He wanted to see me handle the dog, since Roger only wanted Will to go to a trialing home.

After that day we agreed, Janne and me, this was the dog we would like to buy! This was exactly what we hoped to find!

We went home and started waiting for the trialing season to pass, anxiously waiting any reports from Wales.

To make a long and nervous story short, Ruby was not made up, and we got the opportunity we wished for! Will came to Sweden 21 may 2007.

Buying a trained dog is probably the most difficult thing I ever did. It took us a close to a year to really get to know him – and to really bond. I have to thank Roger Phillips for all the support and help I got, and it certainly paid off.

He won the second open trial we entered with CERT, and continued his first trial season with winning two more, placed 2nd once, and 4th twice. One of the trials we won was an International FT where he got CACIT and CERT.

All in all three CERT and one CACIT. He was triple qualified to the Danish Elitpröve (Championship) by winning in Denmark three times during the season.

Will is a top quality dog, and we consider ourselves very lucky that we got the opportunity to buy him. Many thanks Roger!
